A quick baseball trip

Took a quick trip to Pittsburgh with the Old Man to check out PNC Park and watch the Pirates take on the Cardinals. I got up at 4:50 AM yesterday to get a quick four miles in (knowing what I was about to eat!) and we were off to the airport for our 8 am flight. After a quick stop in LaGuardia, we arrived in Pittsburgh just after lunch.  We checked into our hotel and took a little snooze before heading downtown.

Although we got lost a few times driving in - thanks Siri - we finally made it.  What a ballpark!  It might be my new favorite. Here are some pictures.

A nice welcoming look

Pirate Parrot - nicely played my friend.  Nicely played.

Looking back at the field (through a fence) from above the rig field scoreboard.

Thanks Pittsburgh.  Hate your football team, but you see, pretty cool otherwise. Less than 24 hours after leaving Portland, we are at the airport waiting to come home.

Bad, bad blogger

Ugh.  What can I say? August got the best of me.  For the most part, I've been able to continue the running - averaging 4 to 5 mid-week runs and a 9 or 10 miler each weekend (except - of course - last weekend, which we spent visiting family in Vermont and this weekend where I am - currently - in Pittsburgh for a baseball game with the old man).  I did, however, get up this morning at 4:45 to get a 4 mile solo run in (in the dark) before heading to the airport - I think I'm gonna pat myself on the back on that one!

I also got a few 20 mile bike rides in . . .

And swam in the ocean on morning.

All in all, I've stayed fairly healthy - just a few strains here and there and I've stayed motivated. All good.  Actually, I've gotten a little faster too.  This morning I ran my 4 miles in 34:25 which is an 8:37 minute mile. I didn't really push, I just didn't lolleygag - in other words, I think I could have gone faster.  Back in January, the same 4 mile route was taking me 41:31 (January 1) and 40:25 (January 2). That's a 10:21 pace and a 10:06 pace! So that's like a minute and a half mile improvement - and I think (THINK) I can go faster.

But, alas, it is not about speed.  It is about endurance, and finishing.  The miles in the official training program really start to take off in September - from 11 miles to 13 miles next month).

Fundraising has been going great! I have raised $3,660, leaving me only $1,340 shy of my $5,000 goal.  At this point I've nearly hit up everyone I know, but I've got some other irons in the fire and am not (yet too worried).  I would, however, like to be done by 9/21/13.  That way I can focus on running!

And now for random end-of-run pictures (as if anyone cares)

Thoroughly bored?!?  Good.  That's it for now.  Will try to be more up to date in September.
